Rarely does a film celebrate the long-forgotten veteran directors of Hollywood? But not anymore, with Hal around the corner, you will stop complaining. The film is a tribute to the evergreen, eternally youthful director who never got his rightful place. The film goes down the memory lane to reveal his exact nature, personality, insight, and habits of the great director. His acquaintances, friends, relatives, colleagues come together to re-live his life as they saw it. The talented director was the hand behind many classics like Coming home, Shampoo, The last detail, and Harold. But although his work got him many accolades, he was always considered to be a backbencher among the crowd of filmmakers of his milieu. The film goes on to shed light on the passion and obsession which coursed through his veins. He was deeply influenced by the beauty and the sufferings of life alike. He portrayed some of the shades of life in his movies with a matchless insight tinged with honesty and humor. The movies he made were filled with a sensitive message for humanity but not in a boring way. Humourous and attention-grabbing scenes were his trademark. Although his work was much ahead of the times, he was the cold-shouldered one among his contemporaries Spielberg, Coppola, and Scorsese who ascended the stairs to stardom at a swift pace.

Many of us are familiar with Lizzie Borden, who had stabbed her parents to death( you heard me quite right, my hands are shivering penning down this), will surely talk about it, whatever little I am aware of). Lizzie father’s face was nothing less than a paste and also that some one whose mental condition was snot up to the mark could only have done it. They were actually her step parents. Indeed a horrific crime, done by her. Lizzie was an unwed lady ( in her 30’s). Lizzie was an outcast who was caged in harsh, dominated fathers control. When a young maid who wants work at any cost, starts sliving with the family, Lizzie sees a similar spirit, and also a chance of togetherness, growing into a black-hearted plan, with a dark and an alarming end.

The whole world is dealing with sexuality issues- whether it is the rising pre-marital sex or the flood of episodes of extramarital affairs. But the largest share of controversy is taken by the gays. Even though it has been around for ages, it has become more evident in the last two or three decades and people have become more accepting towards it. But a majority of the population is still uncomfortable with the concept of same-sex unions and the concept of LGBT seems alien to them. Some hail it as a repercussion of repressed sexuality or over dominance of parents on the child. Whatever the reason, it is difficult to digest and embarrassing to confess that one’s sexual orientation has deviated from the normal. This is the main storyline of the movie Boy Erased which deals with teenage gay. As more attractive than the opposite ones. The revelation brings a trail of disgust from the community, and a condition attends the gay conversion program which, if left unfulfilled, will spell his ostracism from family and community alike. An excellent approach to the controversial subject.

First Man (2018): Who helped him go up there? – Damien Chazelle
As the name suggests, this biographical adventure film is about the First ever man on space, none other than Neil Armstrong, played by Ryan Gosling earlier seen as a child artist, in The Mickey Mouse Club on Disney channel, also seen in The Notebook.
The film has Gosling & Damien Chazelle on the director’s list. The flick follows Armstrong’s wonderful journey of becoming the first ever person to land on Moon, the epic year 1969.
Chazelle also said that Gosling was the first choice he had in mind for the role of Armstrong. I got fascinated by the fact that what could drive anyone to do what Armstrong did.
Neil, he said was not at all a showy person, unlike other astronauts & pilots of that era, a very quiet person, speak when spoken to, types.

Man is strong. Man’s body may be made of the lesser elements but his soul is as mighty as steel. We can get a taste of it by the tales of grit when it comes to dealing with a handicap. The soul clearly scores over the body as it can overcome handicaps and travel across multiple realms. The fortitude of the soul is nonpareil. Many know the strength with which Helen Keeler faced life despite being triply disabled. The deaf, dumb and blind lady conquered her disabilities to educate herself and lead a normal life. The film in question also depicts the grit of Jean Dominique Bauby who is left trapped within a paralyzed body after a stroke. He is better known as the editor of Elle. The only organ free of the curse of paralysis in his left eye. The film describes the journey of the man of substance right from his normal days to his post-traumatic days when we can see the sterling quality of his soul. Julian Schnabel has directed the classic.
