The house of Tolerance, ironically also called the house of pleasures, is a classic based on the trying times the prostitutes go through. The film is seen through the eyes of a young lady, who chooses to pick up the oldest profession to earn a living. The film gives the ancient twentieth century feeling as the brothel is set in an aesthetically decorated house. The beautiful girls with their bright and long flowing dresses, smoking cigar and blowing circles of smoke in the air lend an aura of bewitching, misty, dreamy scenes. But behind the passionate encounters with rich men, painted faces, glamorous dresses and female bonding over cigar puffs, lays an ugly truth. The prostitutes are inching towards an unknown fate as the building which houses the brothel comes under a legal tussle. The owner of the brothel is living under perpetual fear of losing the rented house to the landlord, lest he increases the rent. A little later, her worst fears come . She will have to forego the house and all the girls who stay under her guidance will be rendered homeless. The film proceeds to show the roller coaster which these women go through. There is a sea of pain, denial, enslavement, and hopelessness they have to reckon with every day, and still smile and entertain their part-time suitors.

God created man and man. He gave him a beautiful world to live in. He bestowed upon him the emotions like love, peace and harmony. But man,the selfish creature that he is, created nothing but boundaries. He gave in to the instincts of jealousy,self-centeredness, and greed. The peace is drowned in the cacophony of rifles; the bond among the natives comes down crashing like a house of cards. The movie focuses on a true incident which occurred in mid 90’s in Algeria. A small town of Algeria is home to a handful of Christian missionaries among a large populace of Muslims. The civil war breaks out and the Christian men are warned to leave the place. While some members deem it perfect to leave, some want to stay behind. As they are still contemplating when their worst fears come true. They are held hostage by the hard core terrorists. The sequence of events leads to a tragedy which will be forever be marked with black letters in the pages of history. It is the sensitive portrayal of the cruel external politics winning over the solidarity among the commoners. Once again the humanity loses out to the power of politics. Truly, it creates a powerful impact and brings us face to face with the brutal reality of the violence-ridden world.
