Humans are born just that way-as humans, but our education, culture, language, and religion draw boundaries and we are categorized into blacks or whites, Christians or Muslims. The movie Spiral deals with the most brutal truth of humanity-division.The subtle classification which should only give us permission to live in our own way to become the bone of contention and all of us fall prey to the devilish designs of the dividing rules. The movie broaches up a similar topic-this time it is the Jews who are at the receiving end. They have long been staying in France and now they are being coerced into leaving the country for good. Once their homeland, the country has become alien to them. Either they have to live with fear ruling over them or relinquish their residency. The fear, the tears, the questioning glances of the innocent children, the outrage on the streets and the fear in the eyes of the Jews cast a miserable atmosphere. Some wish to stay behind and fight for their rights and some think it’s better to move away from the country. The film shows that prejudice and ostracism only bring suffering. After all, humans are causing misery to the humans-how fair, is it?

My Son (2017)
‘Faces Places’ is simply unique and a tale of its kind. The film finds the legendary 88-year-old auteur, Agnès Varda teaming up with a semi-anonymous street photographer known as JR. This was all in the name of a whimsical tour of the French countryside. The duo’s plan is to drive from one country side to another. Apart from that, they are to call the natives to appear in the van that JR has changed into a mobile photo booth, and lastly paste huge printed material of the following portraits onto the environments their subjects call home. She was a woman already destined to leave an impact on film. However, it’s deeply beautiful and exciting to watch as this great artist commemorates the blue-collar NPCs of rural France. Notable about the film is the way the locals; i.e. the farmers, laborers, and postmen who are strangers to each other fit in. Precisely, Varda and JR aren’t justifying their subjects, but rather requesting them to corroborate for the images to affirm our existence of being bigger than our bodies. ‘Faces Places’ is a funny, moving, and life-affirming film that also managed to win the L’Œil d’Or award.

Some French men like Bertrand Bonello aren’t a joke when it comes to creativity. “Nocturama” is not the best, but has got something unique for us all. Perhaps you heard this common saying- an idle mind is a devil’s workshop and the saying has just been proven by Bertrand. His ideology for the film unveils a group of young fellows who for unclear reasons plan a terror attack on Paris. Once the attack is staged, they run off to a department store to watch how the city reacts to the explosion. Strange as it may seem, Bertrand (director and writer) never provided any conservation for the seven Parisian teens who participated in the attack. The film illustrates its tale in a form of flashbacks and also interconnects events from different perspectives. “Nocturama” will present several questions regarding the scenario depicted. They are only intended to cause pain, sorrow, destruction and probably a result of revenge. The film generally received positive critics with some critics describing it as provocative. It also won the SIGNIS award among other few awards.
